Amazon Delivery Drones: The Future of Shipping?

Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos, recently unveiled Amazon's latest experiment - electric drones that would deliver packages to customers within 30 minutes of placing an order. Sounds futuristic, huh?

In a 60 Minutes interview, Bezos explained how it would work:

Mini helicopters or "octocopters" directed by GPS would launch from a nearby Amazon Fulfillment Center. It would be able to deliver packages up to 5 pounds in weight to customers that lived within a certain radius of the center (approximately 10 miles). While 5 pounds might not sound like a lot, nearly 86% of items that Amazon sells are in that weight range.

There are a number of concerns regarding the safety and effectiveness of this service and further testing still needs to be done before this becomes available.  According to CBS News, the delivery-by-drone service could be available to customers as soon as 4 to 5 years.

Take a look at how this works and let us know what you think! What are your thoughts or reservations?
