M-Commerce: Staggering Growth in US and UK

Mobile commerce is on the rise and it's evident as the number of smartphone and tablet users increase steadily across the globe. Take a look at the statistics below to see how mobile commerce has grown across the United States and United Kingdom and where it's expected to go.




M-Commerce in the United States

A recent report from Forrester Research predicts that mobile commerce will reach nearly $114 billion in 2014 ($38 billion from smartphones + $76 billion from tablets). As retailers work to enhance the mobile shopping experience and consumers become more comfortable purchasing items directly from these devices, you can expect these numbers to rise.

M-Commerce in the United Kingdom

Consumers across the United Kingdom are quickly adopting the use of mobile devices for retail purchases. The following statistics shared by Mobile Marketing Magazine highlight this growth (based on findings from February 2014 to April 2014):

  • Over one third of all online sales are made on mobile devices
  • Mobile commerce has risen to 34% - up from 20% last year
  • Over the past four years, mobile commerce has grown by 3400%
  • 48% of website visits came from smartphone and tablet users (up from 30% last year)
