Shipping Strategies to Reduce Shopping Cart Abandonment

There is no doubt consumers are motivated by shipping deals and promotions, making shipping one of (if not the most) important factors to consider when purchasing items online. Studies reveal a surprising 44% of consumers abandon items in their shopping carts due to high shipping costs, and another 22% do so because shipping costs or policies are unclear.

Here are a few easy strategies to ensure customer satisfaction and reduce shopping cart abandonment:

  • If you're offering site-wide shipping deals, make it a focal point on the homepage of your website.
  • On product pages, be sure to include delivery options that are available for that item (along with estimated costs).
  • Provide an overall estimated shipping cost on all items in the consumer's shopping cart.
  • If your company offers delivery outside the country, be sure to highlight additional fees or estimated costs for international shipping.
