In April, we wrote about the importance of mobile-friendly site design in the etail marketplace. Well, Adobe’s Digital Advertising Report for the second quarter of 2015 is out, and the numbers affirm how indispensable mobile design really is.
It seems that Mobilegeddon is real, and it’s happening right now. Adobe saw a 10% decline in site landings that are not mobile friendly. The cost of mobile cost per click search ads went up 16% as demand as increased. Adobe predicts that desktop traffic will lag behind mobile traffic in the next 18 months.
Sellers, if you haven’t done anything yet, you need to act now! Take stock of the options available; responsive design, dedicated mobile websites, applications, and add the costs to the company budget. Of equal importance is a solid mobile marketing strategy. Take note of the size of mobile devices when creating email campaigns and ads; create an impact with compelling images that get the point across without being too “wordy”.
Don’t just take our word for it. Here are a few additional articles from leading e-commerce market trend source, Internet Retailer:
- “Mobilegeddon is a Reality.” This article shares the numbers that highlight the downward traffic trend of non-mobile friendly sites.
- “Smartphones Take Traffic and Sales from Other Shopping Devices”. Here, we explore the increasing share of e-commerce revenue going to mobile devices, and why we are seeing such a trend.
One thing is sure; to remain successful in the online marketplace, sellers need to be flexible. Just 3 months after we first heard the term “Mobilegeddon” we are seeing the proof in numbers.
